Improvers from all over the state of California gathered in Monterey to celebrate improvement in special education. Attendees heard from leaders in the field and accessed valuable resources focused around improving data use and governance, embracing high-leverage practices for students with disabilities, and utilizing a systematic approach to launch an LEA’s improvement journey.

There were many highlights from the two-day conference one of which was a dynamic keynote address by “America’s Educator” Ron Clark.

“Great conference!!”

Participants also heard from state educational leaders, Heather Calomese, Special Education Division Director and Mindy Fattig, California Collaborative for Educational Excellence, Senior Advisor, Statewide System of Support.

The SIL booth offered additional information on no-cost resources and live demonstrations of the Improvement Data Center (IDC).

“SIL offering these resources free of charge offers access & equity! As a community this conference is allowing for growth & development that is not limited by finance!”

The Summit also included panel discussions with SELPAs, LEAs and County Offices of Education (COEs) as well as Networked Improvement Community (NIC) spotlights consisting of LEAs sharing their efforts to support and redesign their systems for students with disabilities.

“Great presenters!”

“Hearing from the different people on the panels was super helpful. Each brought a unique perspective to the work.”

“EVERYTHING!! LOVE THE VISUALS. CHARTS. STORIES. PARTNERSHIP. CONSTANT COMMUNICATION. RELIABILITY ON EACH OTHER. THE PRESENTER & CLOVIS TEAM QUESTION & ANSWER PANEL.”

“The panel gave insight that applied to my position and helped with ideas for system improvement.”

The SIL team is grateful to all who joined us to share stories of improvement and resources. We are honored to celebrate improvement in special education across California.
